Santa Julia natural wines

A notable player from the lush vineyards of Argentina’s Mendoza region is the Santa Julia Winery. Headed up by Julia Zuccardi, third generation scion of one of Argentina's most notable winemaking families, Santa Julia create wines that are mindful of their environment, with two of their three vineyards certified organic and the third on the way.

This dedication to sustainability hugely influences the wines Santa Julia create, and is why you’ll find an intriguing and stylish pair of natural wines in their range. Having undergone minimal intervention, had no sulfites added and therefore in their most natural form, the two wines are authentic expressions of their unique Argentinian terroir.

Santa Julia’s natural offerings consist of a Blanco Natural made from Argentina’s indigenous Torrentes grape and a red made from Malbec. The Torrentes (think a combination of Riesling, Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer) offers a delicious citrusy, fruity and fresh profile that feels familiar, but is decidedly different.

The red ‘Le Burro’ is a Malbec that rises to the occasion when slightly chilled – we’re talking ripe red and black fruits and a moreish spicy finish. It’s a staple for all seasons, as a winter warmer, or when served chilled as a great addition to spring and summer barbecues. These smart, sustainably crafted wines make a welcome fit at any dinner party.

While this pair might differ from what you typically see on the shelf, they are the perfect wines for those who love a natural approach, or are into exploring a new category. They are unique and flavoursome wines, and a delightful reflection of the land they’re grown on.

SANTA JULIA

The winery of Julia Zuccardi, Santa Julia strive to produce wines that express Argentina's unique characters while maintaining a strong committment to the environment. With three vineyard areas, two of which are now certified organic, the long term goal is for 100% Certification. All of the water used in the winery is repurposed for irrigation and only natural fertilizers are used, with impressive recycling and programmes to reduce waste.

Santa Julia is the first winery in Mendoza to achieve the Fair for Life Certification, a programme promoting corporate social responsibility and fair trade within responsible supply chains. The vineyard site at Santa Rosa contains classrooms for adult learning, providing employees with the opportunity to complete their education. There is a creche, a gymnasium, a library, study zones and land donated to house a kindergarten.
